Why Sport Levels Matter
Playing with others at your skill level ensures competitive, enjoyable matches that help everyone improve. Our rating system makes it easy to find the right partners and opponents for your game.
Tennis Skill Levels
The tennis rating system ranges from 1.0 (absolute beginner) to 7.0 (expert). Each level represents specific skills and playing abilities to help you find suitable matches.
Beginner
For people that have just started playing Tennis. Still learning the basic rules, scoring, and court positioning.
Beginner+
Players with very little experience, whose level is limited to trying to keep the ball in play.
Advanced Beginner
Players who feel more secure with their strokes and avoid coming to the net. They still have trouble returning the ball after a rebound off the court.
Advanced Beginner+
The speed of ball has improved. Returns are more consistent. Play is advancing more towards the net. Groundstrokes are becoming easier.
Intermediate
The skill of this player is improving overall with more accurate shots and better groundstrokes. The serve is good. Volleys are increasing at the net.
Intermediate+
The player has control of the ball and shot accuracy is improving further. The ball speed is higher and better positioning on the court with their partner.
Advanced
A more experienced Tennis player who is consistent in the basic shots, forehand, backhand, volleys, serves, lob, smash. The more difficult shots are challenging. Good rebound play off the court. Good assessment of the opposition to place targeted shots.
Advanced+
A more aggressive player who is well positioned on court and effects winning shots. Still some errors are made with difficult shots that command power, but improving.
Expert
This player has managed to strengthen and enhance all of the above, rarely making mistakes. Good anticipation and intelligent structured shots. Awareness of when to take risks to win points.
Expert+
Differences between levels are now getting minimal. The player is a point better prepared both physically and mentally.
Semi-Professional
A semi-professional competition player ranked outside the world's top 100.
Professional
A professional player ranked inside the world's top 100.
How to Determine Your Level
Self-Assessment
Read through the level descriptions and honestly evaluate your current skills, consistency, and match experience.
Play with Others
Play matches with players at different levels to better understand where you fit. Pay attention to rally consistency and competitive balance.
Get Feedback
Ask coaches or experienced players for their assessment. They can provide valuable insights about your true playing level.
Remember: It's better to slightly underestimate your level than overestimate it.
